2022: Device takes part in operations

On May 19, 2022, Globus Medical announced the first operations with the help of the robot surgeon Excelsius3D. Doctor Paul K. McAfee and doctor Mesfin A. Lemma from Memorial hospital Medstar Union (Baltimore), doctor Roland Kent from Northwest specialized hospital (Post-Fols, Idaho) and doctor Jeffrey A. Goldstein from NYU Langone Health (New York) carried out the first clinical cases with use of Excelsius3D together with the solution of ExcelsiusGPS.

Globus Medical positions its product as an intelligent intraoperative imaging platform "3 in 1" and a mobile X-ray system for 2D radioscopy, 2D digital radiography and 3D imaging of adult and pediatric patients. Indications for its use cover those cases where the doctor needs two-dimensional and three-dimensional information about anatomical structures and high-contrast objects with a large attenuation of X-rays, such as bone anatomy and metal objects.

The world's first robot surgeon with X-ray and 3D imaging began to perform operations

{{quote 'Adding Excelsius3D to our operating room helped optimize our navigation workflow with, ExcelsiusGPS Goldstein said in a release. Intraoperative imaging technology allows us to effectively visualize anatomy, offers three imaging modes in one complex system, and our radiologist technicians are easy to maneuver and position. We are excited about this new tool that will help us provide patients with the best care possible. }}

Excelsius3D in combination with ExcelsiusGPS is an intraoperative robotic image navigation solution that improves the accuracy of implant installation, reduces beam load and reduces surgery time. This solution is now commercially available in the United States.[1]
