2022: Development of a platform for the release of storage on processors of the Elbrus line

The company "Aerodisk" May 25, 2022 announced the completion of the development of an ultra-compact platform for the release of storage on the processors of the Elbrus line. The solution allows you to accommodate two hot-swap controllers, as well as an internal DAE, within two units.

The platform supports work on processors of the Elbrus line. In two-unitary format, storage on Western vendors processors is available, and storage on Elbrus has so far been produced in only four-unitary format.

The development of the solution took 8 months of work of the dedicated project team under the leadership of the chief designer. Contracting organizations were also involved in the project: KB Electronics, Resonit, ICST.

The main challenge of the project was the lack of a motherboard for Elbrus in a compact form factor. When creating it, it was necessary to solve the task of installing the required number of adapters to connect external devices required to expand the storage functionality and scale the storage system. This was done by developing special adapters - raiser cards that allow you to install two PCI Express adapters. They allow you to install up to two adapters for each controller, and then connect the necessary external devices via Fiber Channel or Ethernet.

The project team was able to achieve such a location of adapters and storage components, including cooling fans, that allowed to level the relatively large size of the motherboard and ergonomically place it in a compact form factor.
