2022: Digital Heart Twin Announcement

At the end of May 2022, the NCMU "Digital Biodesign and Personalized Healthcare" of the first Moscow State Medical University named after Sechenov announced the creation of a digital double heart of a person. This development, according to the creators, can become a tool for the work of not only scientists and students, but also medical workers. At the time of the announcement of the technology, it is already being used as an educational tool at the university.

The new development allows you to create a "digital patient twin," which takes into account the complex effect of drugs, the peculiarities of the heart in various diseases, for example, arterial hypertension or heart defects, - noted in the press service of Sechenov University.

Digital heart twin developed at Sechenov University

As Philip Kopylov, director of the Institute of Personalized Medicine at Sechenov University, explained, using a VR interface developed by university specialists, students can solve various cases in the field of cardiovascular physiology, and the results are already integrated into the general educational circuit. According to Kopylov, a feature of the system is in various "difficulty levels," where the most basic patterns are spelled out by known or developed equations, and more complex patterns can be implemented using the most modern mathematical arsenal, including machine learning and big data processing.

The created 3D model of the cardiovascular system is reported to take into account complex physiological relationships that regulate blood pressure levels, depending on the condition of the heart, blood vessels, kidneys and other organs. The digital twin allows you to simulate various situations, shows what will happen to the level of pressure when a change in the state of the body occurs.[1]
