The first robot librarian appeared in Russia

On June 9, 2022, it became known that the Tikhvin City Library named after Ya. I. Berednikov in the Leningrad Region got a job as a robot librarian. This project has become unique in its kind in Russia, it was implemented with the participation of Promobot.

The duties of the robot include advising visitors on library services and services, helping to navigate and search for library halls, as well as communicating with visitors and attracting young people to the library. So that the robot can escort the visitor to the required place, Promobot engineers have developed special sensors with which the robot builds a map of the room.

According to the developers themselves, the direction of the service is key in municipal institutions, and there is a lot of work ahead to develop the robot. So, it is planned to improve the functionality of the robot so that it can not only talk about the services and services of the library, but also help with the selection of a book, the genre of the work, as well as attract visitors to reading.

Especially for the purchase of the robot, the library received a grant for informatization within the framework of the Kultura national project: among other equipment, a domestic robot Promobot V4 appeared in the library.

At the moment, our robots are actively used in areas where the service plays an important role: healthcare, the banking sector, airports. Municipal institutions are no exception, there are also "human errors" that the robot is simply not able to make, "says Oleg Kivokurtsev, Development Director of Promobot. - Robotization of libraries can radically change their image in the minds of the younger generation.

Library staff announced a competition for the most original name for the new "colleague." By a majority vote, they chose the name 'Taffy'.
