2021: Criminal case initiated
On July 17, 2021, Alexander Kurdyukov, who then held the post of Minister of Digital Development and Communications of the Amur Region, was resting at the Berlog camp site. There, according to the investigation, a conflict occurred between him and Alexei Shkarin, as a result of which the head of the regional Ministry of Digital Science received a head injury. In serious condition, he was taken to the hospital, where on July 24, 2022, Kurdyukov died. A criminal case was initiated under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm." Then the case was reclassified to part 1 of article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Causing death by negligence.
2022:7 months of colony-settlement for the death of the IT Minister of the Amur Region
At the end of June 2022, the Blagoveshchensk City Court sentenced in the high-profile case of the death of the Minister of Digital Development and Communications of the Amur Region Alexander Kurdyukov. The court found powerlifter Alexei Shkarin guilty under Part 1 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence), but he will not serve his sentence in the colony.
The court sentenced Shkarin to seven months in a penal colony. At the same time, the punishment is considered served, since for a long time Shkarin was in custody. He must also pay the wife of the deceased compensation for moral damage in the amount of 1 million rubles, according to a court decision cited by TASS.
It is noted that the defendant petitioned for sentencing without a trial. Mitigating circumstances, the court considered the admission of guilt and repentance, active assistance to the disclosure and investigation of the crime, the presence of young children, the commission of a crime of small gravity by negligence for the first time, the apology of the victim during the court session. The court recognized that the defendant was intoxicated as an aggravating circumstance.
Alexey Shkarin petitioned for sentencing without a trial. The athlete faced up to two years in prison.[1]
