History

Viticulture in the western part of Crimea arose in ancient times, thanks to the development of coastal lands by Greek farmers. It was the Hellenes who planted the first vineyards in Crimea on steppe soils, built wineries and vaults, organized the sale of finished wines sealed in clay vessels. During archaeological excavations carried out in 1961 in the area of Cape Tarkhankut, prints of grape seeds were found in ceramic vessels (pythos). Research by scientists has confirmed the assumption that viticulture in this part of the Crimean peninsula (the territory of the current Black Sea region) developed from the 4th century BC.
