Terroir
The climate of the West Foothill Crimea is mild Mediterranean, with the soft action of the Black Sea and good ventilation by sea breezes. On average, in a year, depending on the height above sea level, from 450 to 600 mm of precipitation falls here. The average annual temperature is + 10.4 °. In winter, the temperature can drop below -27 °, due to which the adhesions of vines for the winter are covered with earth. The gentle hillsides of Western Crimea are dominated by dark brown loams, and richer carbonate chernozems are concentrated along river valleys. The underlying rocks here are limestones and a unique, especially dense type of marl, which in the local places is known as "white-eye clay."
