2022: Creating a prototype of an alternative interface for working with a personal computer

On July 4, 2022, ExAccenture announced the creation of a prototype of an alternative interface for working with a personal computer. The program makes it easier to interact with people's PCs with additional needs.

It is difficult for some users to control a computer using a keyboard, mouse, or even special technical devices. This may be due in particular to limited hand mobility, loss of functionality of one or more fingers. In this case, moving between the keys, moving the mouse cursor is extremely slow.

The solution proposed by AxTim uses computer vision technology for these purposes. The desktop application connects to the device's video camera, monitors the user's specified movements - head turns, gestures, object manipulations - and converts them into system control signals. Thus, you can print, turn pages, control the cursor and other objects on the screen, play games.

An alternative PC management interface is a completely domestic development created in Python. It uses only open source components - open source tools and libraries. In the Russian and foreign markets, we have not yet seen similar universal solutions, - said Artemy Gevorkov, solution developer, Technology practice analyst at AxTim LLC (ex-Accenture).

The prototype was created in just a month. The AksTim solution is not specialized for working with any specific software, it can be configured to interact with any computer program.

In the future, the application will take into account the specifics of various classes of software products - for example, office editors, training programs. The latter is especially important for children: they will be able to interact more fully with a computer without the help of adults, while maintaining interest and motivation in studying, "added Mikhail Barinov, director of Technology Practice at AxTim LLC (ex-Accenture).

The company is confident that the development will find application in institutions engaged in the treatment, rehabilitation and leisure of people with additional needs: in medical centers, private clinics, nursing homes, correctional schools, etc.
