History
2022
Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang left his post ahead of schedule
In October 2022, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang left his post ahead of schedule in China's highest governing body, while President Xi Jinping is strengthening control over the economy, which ranks second in the world.
Li, 67, was not included in the Communist Party's new 200-member Central Committee, a prerequisite for joining the more powerful Politburo and its highest Standing Committee. The new composition of the Central Committee represents the culmination of Xi's decade-long efforts to consolidate power since his ascension to the top post a decade ago.
