UEC has completed the second stage of creating a digital twin aircraft engine AI-222-25

2022: Completion of the second stage of the creation of the digital twin of the aircraft engine AI-222-25

In the production complex "Salute AO" UEC(part of the State Corporation) Rostec completed the second stage to project create digital twin a AI-222-25 for plane the Yak-130. Experts have prepared digital models of a serial engine, developed, verified integrated and calculated models into a domestic digital platform. UEC announced this on July 5, 2022.

A digital twin is a set of mathematical calculation models integrated into a single digital platform that allows you to calculate and predict processes throughout the life cycle of the engine.

The project to create a digital twin of the gas turbine engine AI-222-25 launched at the Salyut production complex in early 2021 and is carried out in close cooperation with CIAM, MAI, St. Petersburg Peter the Great Polytechnic University and Advent Engineering.

The specialists of the working group modeled the characteristics of the serial engine as a whole, its components and parts, linking the results with a multi-level matrix of requirements. Methods for digital support of tests and verification of mathematical calculation models were also developed. This made it possible to equip the digital twin with reliable, reflecting the real experience of testing and operation, mathematical calculation models and introduce them into a single digital platform.

As part of the project, the working group analyzed and digitalized all certification tests that were carried out at the stage of creating the AI-222-25 engine. This data was used to validate the mathematical design models of the serial engine, and for the upgraded version this will reduce the volume of tests, replacing them with calculations, as well as determine the directions of design work, predict how changes will affect the key characteristics of the product - strength, engine parameters, reliability, etc. So we will reduce the time for the development and certification of the engine, - said Yury Shmotin, Deputy General Director - General Designer of UEC JSC.

At the beginning of July 2022, experts created digital twins of the main engine components AI-222-25, dynamic and thermodynamic models of the entire engine.

Salyut continues to work on improving the AI-222-25 engine with an increased resource. By the end of 2022, we will complete the creation of a full digital engine layout. In the near future, the digital twin will become a real tool for adapting the engine to new aviation platforms, "said Alexey Gromov, head of the Salyut PC, UEC JSC.

The production complex "Salyut" JSC "UEC" fully mastered the mass production of the AI-222-25 engine in 2015. In 2019, the UEC program was launched to modernize a number of components of this engine. Since 2021, the company is the main developer of the digital twin of the AI-222-25 engine.
