Customers: Utel

Contractors: NVision Group
Product: SCS projects and wireless network infrastructure

Project date: 2007/11

At the end of 2007 JSC Uralsvyazinform, the basic operator of telecommunication services of the Ural region, and NVision Group company announced project completion of upgrade of a trunk segment of multiservice network of the operator. Upgrade of a backbone network – one of parts of the large-scale program for creation in the Ural region of a high-speed data network which is implemented by Uralsvyazinform. The new trunk became unified transport environment for transfer of IP traffic of different type, including data transmission, multimedia and video.

As a result of project implementation all regional sections of Uralsvyazinform network were united in a single multiservice network, and the operator had an opportunity of decrease in operating costs due to optimization of network infrastructure and receiving an additional income thanks to expansion of a service portfolio.

Today Uralsvyazinform company – the universal operator of telecommunication services working at the territory of Kurgan, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk regions, Perm Krai and also the Khanty-Mansi and Yamal-Nenets autonomous areas. JSC Uralsvyazinform services 3.7 million subscribers fixed and 4.9 million subscribers of cellular telephony and also more than 260 thousand users of broadband Internet access.

The project of upgrade of a trunk segment of a multiservice communication network implemented by NVision Group included creation of the high-speed backbone network intended for consolidation of regional segments in the single multiservice network designed for providing both traditional, and innovation services in data transmission, multimedia and video. Upgrade of the trunk working atop already existing DWDM network promoted accumulation of network transmission capacity up to 10 Gbps (with perspective of expansion to 160 Gbps). The multiservice network has junction points in all 235 cities and the district centers of seven regions in the territory of which JSC Uralsvyazinform works.

As a basic network technology in the solution the Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology is applied. It provided to the operator an opportunity to render a full range of modern services of end-to-end service quality (QoS) and also to resolve issues of scalability, controllability and security. Trunk level of network is constructed based on failsafe and productive routers of Juniper Networks company.

At the trunk level connection and transfer of traffic of content providers, including transfer of the broadcast package traffic, and creation of "end-to-end" virtual private networks (VPN) of second (L2) and the third level (L3) is performed.

"The high-speed multiservice backbone is designed to increase reliability and operability of all telecommunication network of the company. Today priorities of development of Uralsvyazinform is implementation of services based on network of the next generation and active gaining mass market of broadband access. In the last two years the number of users of broadband access grew up by 15 times and already exceeded 260 thousand. All this leads to significant growth of a data transmission traffic, i.e. load of network. Expansion of capacity of multiservice network, reliability augmentation of its work is a high-quality ensuring services for users of broadband access who had recently an opportunity to connect digital interactive television of Utel.TV", – the Crimean Mikhail, the deputy CEO – the director of Interregional branch of information and network technologies of JSC Uralsvyazinform noted.

"When implementing the project we were faced by a task of creation of the modern solution of the operator level which is most full answering to the current and strategic tasks of the customer, - Golovin Sergey, the deputy CEO for marketing of NVision Group says. – In the course of upgrade of regional network segment Uralsvyazinform we applied the solutions which proved the reliability and performance. Problems of scalability, controllability, service maintenance and security of Uralsvyazinform network were as a result successfully solved, and the operator received a qualitative basis for development of the business by means of implementation of new types of service".
