2022: Creating DNS Infrastructure Protection

StormWall specialists, which develops innovative solutions for protecting businesses from DDoS attacks, have created reliable protection for the DNS infrastructure of the Russian domain name registrar RU-CENTER. In addition, StormWall experts were able to ensure stable routing of traffic to the Internet resources of RU-CENTER clients. StormWall announced this on July 18, 2022.

RU-CENTER uses DDoS protection services provided by Internet providers, but these services do not cover the entire range of attacks that had to be encountered in the spring of 2022. As a result, the company had to rethink its approach to protecting its infrastructure. RU-CENTER faced an avalanche of powerful DDoS attacks aimed at the company's DNS servers, and the security services used did not cope with their task, which led to failures in the DNS infrastructure. As a result of the attack, RU-CENTER DNS servers began to work extremely unstable, and the company's customers had problems with the availability of their resources, as well as the speed of changing DNS records. In order to create more effective protection against DDoS attacks, RU-CENTER decided to connect a provider specializing in protecting businesses from DDoS attacks. It was necessary not only to secure applications by filtering traffic at the Internet application level, but also to provide flexible protection at the level of the DNS protocol itself. StormWall was able to cope with the task.

As of July 2022, StormWall solutions register and reflect an average of about 100 DDoS attacks on RU-CENTER Internet services per day. On some days, RU-CENTER specialists observed attacks with a capacity of several hundred gigabytes per second, but thanks to the use of StormWall services, it was possible to successfully repel all attacks.
