On July 18, 2022, it became known that the US Air Force signed a contract with General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) for up to $908 million to support the development of communication networks in Europe. The agreement involves the creation of a pan-European network of information technologies and enterprises (EITEN).
The contract will provide a wide range of services, including communication planning support, systems engineering and terrain mapping, digital and operational.
Individual orders will be aimed at upgrading and supporting existing infrastructure, networks, systems, their operation and maintenance, cybersecurity and managing the satisfaction process across Europe, including Germany, the UK, Italy and Turkey.
According to John Marshall, vice president of GDIT's Air Force and Combat Command Division for Defense, EITEN will support the entire life cycle of information technology operations, including operations and maintenance activities for legacy systems. Legacy systems would be "redesigned" into what Marshall called "target architectures," as well as special systems designed specifically for the Air Force.
This contract will provide Air Force personnel across Europe with the necessary knowledge, tools and data to mobilize and act on them anywhere, anytime, "said Brian Sheridan, senior vice president of GDIT's defense division. Consolidating multiple critical services under a single contract will also increase the speed, flexibility, and availability of IT services needed in the region. |
GDIT contracted with the 764th Enterprise Sourcing Squadron at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. The contract was awarded on July 14, 2022, according to a statement from the Department of Defense.[1]
