2022: Developing an architectural solution to scale RBS systems with Apache Cassandra
The company R-Style Softlab announced a move to use an open platform Apache Cassandra as a relational replacement DBMS Oracle for high-load components. remote banking systems The prerequisite for such a solution was the successful implementation with its help of a difficult task for one of them, Russian banks TAdviser representatives of R-Style Softlab said on July 26, 2022.
In particular, taking into account the growing volume of data and load for Prio-Vneshtorgbank, it was necessary to develop an architectural solution that allows you to scale the platform that ensures the functioning of a mobile and Internet bank. In preparation for the project, comprehensive studies of various DBMS were carried out and based on their results, the choice was made in favor of Apache Cassandra, which demonstrated the performance and scalability required by the customer.
Since the principles of relational databases and noSQL systems are significantly different, during the implementation of the project and the preparation of the solution for industrial operation, a significant processing of its functional and architectural components was required, R-Style Softlab said. Mechanisms for separating and managing large pools of customers were developed, functionality was implemented to ensure uninterrupted operation of the entire complex, as well as means of organizing the interaction of such a distributed system with the main back-office systems of the bank.
"We are pleased with the cooperation with R-Style Softlab, the professionalism of the team and the functionality of the implemented software," said Boris Bogdanov, Director of the Prio-Vneshtorgbank IT Department. "We hope that further interaction will take place in the same productive way." |
According to the customer's feedback, the centralized database made it possible to scale the solution only vertically, i.e. by adding new hardware. The updated architecture opened the possibility of scaling horizontally by adding new nodes without the need to use additional expensive foreign equipment. In general, the bank received practically unlimited scaling opportunities. At the same time, the solution allows you to abandon the expensive Oracle DBMS in favor of an open source system, which is crucial in modern realities, according to R-Style Softlab.
"In our opinion, the successful implementation of such a project in a large bank speaks of the high potential of open source software source code and its use in the corporate client sector in processing large amounts of data and high transaction load," commented R-Style Artem Hovhannisyan Softlab, Deputy Director of Digital Solutions. |
According to him, the company plans to continue the development of this area and offers Russian customers a way to process data and scale databases horizontally based on the InterBank RS platform.
