2022: Announcement of wireless headphones with solar panels

On August 10, 2022, the Swedish audio company Urbanista introduced the world's first active noise cancellation wireless headphones powered by solar panels, which are built into the charging case.

We've started working on this idea since last October, when we started working on the Los Angeles product, "says Urbanista's chief brand and marketing officer, Tuomas Lonka. When we announced this product in the spring of 2021, we received an excellent reaction, so we immediately realized that in addition to the on-ear headphones, we also need to make in-ear headphones.

Wireless headphones with solar panels released

According to Giovanni Philly, CEO of the Swedish company Exeger, which supplies solar panels for headphones, the solar battery housed on the case of the charging case is constantly recharged from any kind of outdoor or indoor light. The headphones will play music for eight hours after charging, the companies claim, and the charging case could provide energy for 32 hours of use.

As well as the solar charging feature, other features of the headphones are more traditional: IPX4 waterproof, Bluetooth 5.2 support and a USB-C charging port to add to the energy supply when it runs out. Phoenix headphones support active noise cancellation, have a transparency mode that allows you to hear the world around you, as well as the ability to connect to two devices at the same time (for example, this will help you receive calls on your mobile phone without losing contact with your laptop).

Phoenix headphones also feature in-ear detection, which means the headphones know when they're not in their ears. In-ear detection technology saves battery power on headphones using the automatic shutdown function.

Phoenix headphones will be released in the fourth quarter of 2022 at a price of $149 (£129, €149). The following color options are offered: black and pink.^[1]
