Renewal Bio - The company is making strides in artificial uterus and stem cell technology.

History

2022: Embryo cultivation work for human organs begins

In August 2022, Israeli biotech company Renewal Bio said it had successfully used advanced stem cell technology and artificial uteruses to grow mouse embryos that had continued to develop for several days. The study was conducted with the aim of facilitating transplantation and treating diseases such as infertility, genetic diseases and aging, the researchers say.

The embryos remained alive until they developed beating hearts, blood flow and brain beginnings, according to the MIT Technology Review. This is believed to be the first time a synthetic embryo has been created and maintained to such an advanced stage without the use of sperm, eggs or uterus.

Biotech companies begin work to grow embryos for human organs

The developers from Renewal Bio decided to repeat this process with human embryos, which will serve as a source of tissues and cells that can be used to treat various diseases.

Jacob Hanna, a researcher at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot and founder of Renewal Bio, said he would apply the same technology to human embryos. He published the results of his work in the journal Cell. Hannah told The Guardian that the process carried out by his scientists can help people better understand organ formation in the earliest stages. Notably, the researchers showed that embryonic stem cells generate entire synthetic embryos, meaning they include the placenta and yolk sac surrounding the embryo, and colleagues are really excited about the work in question and its implications for the world around them.

For August 2022 in Israel and many other countries, such as the US and UK, it is legal and we have the ethical approval to do so with human induced pluripotent stem cells. Renewal Bio's website says its mission is to reverse the declining birth rate and the rapid aging of the population.[1]
