2022: Announcement of a "smart" socket with voice control

At the end of August 2022, Xiaomi replenished its assortment of products for the smart home ecosystem with another novelty. The Chinese manufacturer promises that the Mijia Smart Socket 3, which can be controlled, including by voice commands, will turn traditional appliances into smart devices with intelligent functions.

Mijia Smart Socket 3 monitors the consumption of electricity in the house in real time and can turn on or off the equipment connected to it, lighting fixtures, electric heaters, water pumps, etc. According to the Gizmochina portal, voice control is provided by sharing MIJIA Smart Socket 3 with a smart speaker with support for Xiao Ai voice assistant. In addition, you can adjust the operation of the smart outlet according to the schedule entered in the timer or remotely, using the mobile application of the same name on a smartphone or tablet.

The outlet supports wireless Wi-Fi 2,4G and has built-in security features. Mijia Smart Socket 3 is designed for current up to 10A, protected from voltage drops, overheating and overload. Gizmochina observers believe that Xiaomi is probably also developing a 16-amp modification of the Smart Socket 3, to which it will be possible to connect electric appliances with high power consumption, such as refrigerators, water heaters, etc.

Another, not entirely obvious, advantage of a smart outlet is the ability to extend the life of traditional switches. When installing MIJIA Smart Socket 3, there is no need to manually press the switches, which reduces their wear.

By the end of August 2022, Xiaomi MIJIA Smart Socket 3 is already available in China for 59 yuan (about $9). The dates of the global release have not yet been announced.^[1]
