Cash App is a Square mobile payment service that allows users to transfer money to each other using a mobile phone application.

2022: Hacking accounts

According to Motherboard, the accounts of many Cash App users were compromised, and scammers transferred money from hacked accounts to their own. The available balance of hacked Cash App accounts can range from $1,000 to $5,000. The exact amount of damage has not been reported. This became known on August 25, 2022.

On fraudulent websites, darknet marketplaces and social media, several people sell their Cash App login details. The logs sold contain the email address and password for the associated account, as well as the victim's cookie and IP address.

Motherboard says attackers can use accounts to simply steal money or launder illegal money. Accounts that sell on the dark web have already been confirmed. This means they will allow scammers to buy bitcoin through the Cash App without having to prove their identity.

On its website, Cash App recommends that users make sure that two-factor authentication is enabled on their account. The app also has an optional "Security Lock" feature, which means that each time you transfer, the user must enter a PIN.

Victims of cybercriminals can contact Cash App support, Cash App said. The company will take the necessary actions and disable the account, as well as all used products of the company[1].
