2022: Sentence of 6 years in prison for bribe from pharmacy

At the end of August 2022, the Meshchansky District Court sentenced Denis Ivanov, senior investigator for particularly important cases of the Main Investigation Department (GSU) of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moscow. He was found guilty under Art. 290 of the Criminal Code (taking a bribe) and received six years in a maximum security colony.

According to Kommersant, in December 2020, law enforcement officers conducted a control purchase of Lyrica and Tropicamide drugs related to psychotropic substances at Svoya Pharmacy LLC. It turned out that they were dispensed without a prescription. A criminal case was initiated against the owners of the pharmacy on the fact of "illegal circulation of potent substances for the purpose of marketing, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy" (Article 234 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The investigation of the case was entrusted to Denis Ivanov. As the investigation found out, he demanded 5 million rubles from the owners of Svoya Pharmacy LLC for not bringing them to justice. Pharmacists could not collect the entire amount and turned to the FSB, after which Ivanov was arrested.

As a result of the agreement reached through the intermediary, on March 10 and 16, 2021, the attackers received money and their dummies from interested parties in the total amount of 2.9 million rubles as part of the required amount, after which their criminal activities were suppressed during the operational activities of the CSS of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city of Moscow, - said the capital's prosecutor's office.

According to the newspaper, it took two hours to announce the verdict of Chairwoman Irina Gorbulina at the end of August 2022. All this time, the investigator listened to her calmly, especially since from the very beginning it became clear that the decision would be accusatory. Defendant Ivanov pleaded guilty to taking a bribe (Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), denying only its size. The prosecutor in the debate asked to sentence him to nine years of strict regime, deprive him of his rank and fine him 5 million rubles.[1]
