2022: App Creation SDK Announcement

On August 26, 2022, Google released the Cross device SDK for Android, which will allow developers to create software, run on various devices and operating systems.

The preliminary version contains a set of APIs centered around the main functions:

1. Device Discovery: Allows you to find nearby devices, authorize peer-to-peer communication, and run target applications on receiving devices.

2. Secure connections: Provides encrypted bidirectional communication between authorized devices with low latency.

3. Multi-device sessions: Allows you to share or extend the user experience of an application across multiple devices.

Google claims that the API will enable developers to create an attractive experience with different devices, providing and simplifying the following use cases.

The Cross device SDK provides a layer of software abstraction that handles all aspects of cross-devices using wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Ultra-wide band. According to the company, the SDK does all the main work on its own, offering the user a modular API that supports bidirectional communication between devices and is backward compatible with Android 8. In addition, applications will not have to request execution permissions for any of the connection protocols used (such as BLUETOOTH_CONNECT, BLUETOOTH_SCAN, ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, etc.), and the user will be able to allow applications to connect only to their selected devices.

The Cross device SDK is available for Android smartphones and tablets, the Cross device SDK will be available later for other Android and non-Android OS skins.[1]
