Career
2016-2020
Gerrit Spengler began working for Volkswagen in 2016. Then he came to the position of head of the group for the organization of central functions, where, as the company notes, among other things, he paid special attention to personnel management issues. In 2020, he was appointed HR Director at Volkswagen Group Rus LLC.
2022: Appointed Director of the Volkswagen Group Rus
On September 15, 2022, it became known about the appointment of Gerrit Spengler as the new general director of the Russian representative office of Volkswagen. In this post, he replaced Stefan Mekha, who had been in charge of the company since early 2021.
The fact that Gerrit Spengler became the new head of Volkswagen Group Rus LLC was reported by Interfax with reference to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. Prior to that, he was appointed to work for the company as human resources director.
The appointment of a personnel specialist as the head of the Russian representative office indirectly indicates that the sale of all Volkswagen assets in Russia is being prepared, believes independent automotive consultant Sergei Burgazliev.
{{quote 'If an HR director is appointed, then it all comes down to winding up or a significant decrease in business, "the expert said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru. }} Two sources of Gazeta.Ru - in Volkswagen Group Rus, as well as in the auto business - reported on the preparation of the plant for sale.
The working scheme for Volkswagen to preserve business and even production in the Russian Federation in the conditions of Western sanctions could be an agreement with Uzbek or Kazakhstani auto companies, Burgazliev believes. In his opinion, it would be possible to create an umbrella brand on the Russian market by analogy with Ravon (worked in the Russian Federation from 2015 to 2019), which sold models of the GM concern, which had previously left the Russian market.
The Volkswagen Group Rus plant with a capacity of 225 thousand cars per year is located in the Grabtsevo industrial park in Kaluga. Until the beginning of spring 2022, the company produced Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Rapid cars. Also in Kaluga there was a gasoline engine plant with a capacity of 150 thousand units of products per year.[1]
