2022: Development of Odour Description Tool

The company's specialists Google have developed a tool based on (algorithms artificial intelligence AI), which can describe the smell of an object by its chemical structure. This became known on September 14, 2022.

To do this, the Google team trained the neural network using taste and flavor datasets of more than 5,000 different molecules. Thus, a odor map was created. AI described verbally smelling the substance using its chemical structure.

To test the accuracy of AI, the researchers asked a group of 15 people to describe the smell of 320 molecules on which the model was not trained. Since people perceived each smell a little differently, the average of all participants in the experiment was taken and compared with the results of AI for these molecules. As researchers report in Google, it was found that AI predictions were closer to consensus than to the average opinion of the panelists. "In other words, the model demonstrated an exceptional ability to predict odor by molecule structure."

AI has also been able to pinpoint the power of smell and its similarity to other smells, and how other animals can perceive it[1] developed[2].
