2022: Phased transfer of information systems to the Yandex cloud
Magnit and Yandex Cloud have agreed to cooperate on using the platform's cloud services to develop the retail network's information systems. This was announced on September 23, 2022 to TAdviser by representatives of Magnit.
As of September 2022, most data of Magnit, and according to the company's estimates, is more than 500 PB, it is stored in its own and external, a data centers small number of digital analytical and services have been deployed in the clouds so far. The retailer plans to gradually migrate the Russian clouds to and expects to transfer up to 20% of its services to them by the end of 2023.
It is expected that thanks to the "cloud" approach, the retail network can reduce the cost of purchasing and maintaining IT equipment by 20-30%, as well as improve the quality of storage and data use. In addition, a partnership with Yandex Cloud will allow the retailer to quickly update technical tools, launch and scale new and existing client products faster.
Magnit has already launched more than 10 projects in Yandex Cloud, including solutions for controlling commodity accounting, a platform for interaction with suppliers and a solution for controlling the display of goods. The company plans to diversify the use of cloud platforms through Russian offers on the market, completely transfer a loyalty program to the clouds, and also deploy its ERP system in cloud services. As noted, this will be one of the first experiments of such an introduction in the Russian retail market. Magnit is also actively developing the cloud data platform (Lakehouse).
According to Yuri Misnik, director of digital technologies at the Magnit retail chain, Yandex Cloud technology services will allow the company to migrate in a short time and use the maximum capabilities of the Russian provider to continue its digital transformation. In general, according to him, Magnit is building a multi-cloud infrastructure in order to be able to choose an effective solution for specific needs.

As specified in the company, the retail network will use the infrastructure capacity of Yandex Cloud and all platform tools, including container development, serverless computing tools and data platform services. Magnit plans to focus investment in digital product development and minimize the development of its own core IT infrastructure.
