2022: Device Announcement
On September 28, 2022, Olympus announced the release of the Thunderbeat Type X Open, Thin-Jowl Surgical Energy Devices for Open Surgery.
Thunderbeat features a new heat shield designed to provide safer treatments. The initial launch covers Japan. Olympus is planning a commercial launch in Europe, the United States and South Korea in October 2022. Then it is planned to launch in other countries and regions.
Olympus' Thunderbeat portfolio includes hybrid power devices that simultaneously provide ultrasonic and bipolar energy. Devices are used for tissue management, for example, for hemostatic cutting and dissection, in laparoscopic and open surgery. The company said the devices eliminate the need to use multiple tools during the operation. This helps to improve operational efficiency and reduce operation time.
Olympus has developed a device for open surgical procedures requiring delicate and subtle tissue dissection, such as thyroidectomy or radical neck dissection. The heat shield improves the thermal profile on the grip surface to reduce the risk of unintended thermal damage. Its jaw retains a thinly curved tip for precise dissection and improved visibility.
According to the developers, Thunderbeat with the output of both bipolar and ultrasonic energy allows you to perform a variety of operations. This contributes to rapid hemostatic cutting, easy preparation and reliable sealing and separation of vessels. A separate bipolar function allows, if desired, sealing the vessels and performing spot coagulation without cutting.[1]
