Technoserv increased efficiency of forecasts of Roshydromet

The Russian system integrator "Technoserv" announced on September 7, 2010 project completion on upgrade of a departmental communication network and data transmission of Roshydromet. Project cost was 129 million rubles.

The Gidrometsluzhba of Russia provides the state, physical persons and legal entities with hydrometeorological and heliogeophysical information, including weather forecasts, water content, a harvest of crops, the hydrometeorological and heliogeophysical phenomena. Information of Roshydromet allows to raise the population security level, stability of activity of weather and dependent branches of the economy. With respect thereto the special role is played by the speed of collection of information from the subjects to observation of network of Roshydromet located in all regions of Russia.

Collecting, transfer and dissemination of hydrometeorological information is performed through a departmental communication network of Roshydromet (ARIA) which foundation was laid in the 1990s. Since then the network practically did not develop that, taking into account the increased requirements to efficiency and transmission quality of data, it became negative to affect its working capacity. With respect thereto the decision on upgrade of ARIA for the purpose of creation of the global, modern and scalable infrastructure covering the centers of Roshydromet in 93 regions of Russia and, in the long term, profile organizations, institutes and professional users was made.

Since 2007, Technoserv performed the step-by-step upgrade of ARIA including modernization of all subsystems of ARIA: communication channels, data transmission, telephony, information security, management and ensuring functioning. The equipment Cisco Systems was the basis for infrastructure of ARIA: routers of the Cisco 1800, Cisco 2800, Cisco 3800 series, switches of the Cisco Catalyst 2900, Cisco Catalyst 3500 series, Cisco 5500 firewalls. Instruments of optimization of traffic were also developed by product-based Cisco Systems. Complex adjustment of all subsystems was carried out by specialists of Technoserv.

All used solutions were most unified that substantially simplified process of implementation and allowed to create an effective monitoring system and network managements.

As a result Roshydromet received a modern data transmission system of measurements from stations of observations in the territorial, regional and main centers for its postprocessing (a complete set of bulletins, preparation of analyses and predictive products) and archiving. Also the departmental system of dissemination of information intended for transfer of hydrometeorological information (given observations, forecasts, storm warnings, meteorological charts, satellite pictures, etc.), to jobs of meteorologists of different profiles for drawing up exact local forecasts was significantly upgraded.

Further Technoserv will provide technical and warranty support of ARIA. The upgraded infrastructure of network of Roshydromet is calculated for reliable and uninterrupted operation for not less than 10 years.
