The research of "cloud" open source of projects executed by Black Duck Software company showed that the products Amazon.com far bypassed the competing products from Microsoft, Google and Salesforce.com on use frequency. Besides, experts established that the total number of open source of projects "in a cloud" increased in 2009 by 70% in comparison with the previous year.

During the research Black Duck Software about 400 projects using the cloud computing model were revealed. In total these "cloud" open source projects contain 50 million lines of the code.

For data collection Black Duck Software uses own knowledge base on projects based on the open source software. The base contains data about 250 thousand the projects based on the open source software received on the basis of 4.5 thousand unique websites. The analysis of this base allowed to draw a conclusion that Amazon at the moment is in the lead among "cloud" vendors. Considerably concede it platforms Microsoft Azure, Google Apps Engine and Salesforce1 (Force.com).

"When we only began a research, we assumed to find out that such projects are focused first of all on security, privacy and management", - Peter Vescuso, the chief vice president of Black Duck Software told.

"However, in practice by us a big variety of the real projects identifying themselves as "cloud" was revealed. What testifies to the widest scope of such technologies and also an important role of "cloud" operating systems for corporate users", - he added.

According to analysts of the company, among the private and public "clouds" considered during the research there were such widely known projects as Hadoop, Eucalyptus, Hyperic, deltaCloud, Open Stack and OpenECP. Application developers with the open code were involved to a "cloud" environment first of all because of its bigger price availability. This factor against the background of recession was and remains for many companies one of key.

"Under pressure of financial crisis in the last 18-24 months many developers of industrial applications reviewed their architecture for benefit of a "cloud" environment, they addressed open source to platforms because of their smaller price, availability and a variety which they give in creation of ready-made solutions", - Melinda-Carol Ballou, the program director of IDC commented on data retrieveds.
