2022: Implementation of Digital Tool for Quality Control of Threaded Pipe Joints

Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) October 20, 2022 announced the introduction of a digital tool for controlling the quality of threaded pipe connections. The solution developed by the the Russian group of companies CST and based on technology voice recognition will speed up the process of fixing product parameters, as well as automate collection and transmission. information

Within the framework of the Translator project, a Voice-to-text system was developed specifically for TMK enterprises. The software and hardware system automatically digitizes the voice commands of controllers, calling geometric parameters of products, and transmits them in digital format to a single information system of the enterprise.

As of October 2022, the development is undergoing pilot production at the Volzhsky Pipe Plant (VTZ), which is part of TMK, and is used to verify that threaded connections of the TMK UP family comply with the specified standards. Following the implementation, a decision will be made to replicate the technology at other enterprises of the company.

This digital tool reduces the impact of the human factor and automates the work with data in the production of TMK UP pipe products, used in difficult operating conditions. The key goal of the implementation of such projects is to improve TMK products in the interests of customers, - said Anatoly Sychev, Quality Director of TMK.
