2022: Creating a hybrid of 3D printer, laser and milling machines

A hybrid of a 3D printer, laser and milling machines was created in Moscow, which became known at the end of October 2022. We are talking about a development called Unimorph from Moscow Polytechnic University.

According to the author of the idea and the head of the Unimorph project Stanislav Ershov, the device is compact, economical, simple and safe to operate.

Students decided not to take any developments as a basis, but to create their own project from scratch. This made it possible to develop a device that meets the set tasks of ensuring safety and ease of use. To assemble the plant, special structural profiles and sheets of aluminum alloys, plastic were used.

According to the developers, the novelty of the design lies in the peculiarities of the structure of the working bodies of the 3D printer of the device. The developed device is compact, economical, simple and safe to use. The hybrid combines the functions of three machines, which individually will occupy a large area and cost more.

Students of various directions worked on the project: from specialists in the field of automation of technological processes and industries to industrial designers. The work was carried out in four main areas: modeling the machine and its elements, working with the electronic component of the device, manufacturing parts and assembling machine units, as well as selecting and studying materials on topics related to the project. Roles were distributed based on competencies within the framework of the training direction, but personal wishes of the student in mastering new skills for themselves were also taken into account.

By the end of October 2022, the configuration of the created device is completed. The next step will be the integration of development into schools, universities and workshops that will be interested in the machine.[1]
