2022: Russia is creating a satellite constellation for the Internet of Things
B Russia creates a satellite constellation for internet of things called Telum Leo 1. This was announced at the end of October 2022 by the chairman of the council of the Association of Satellite Communication Market Participants. Yuri Urlichich
According to him, the satellite constellation will include 144 main spacecraft and 8 reserve ones. The width of the face of the device is 10 cm, height - 3.4 cm, weight - 1.5 kg, solar battery power - 8 W. The first experimental satellites are due to be launched in December 2023, Urlicic said.
He also spoke about plans to implement another satellite constellation for the Internet of Things - Marathon IoT. It is expected that as a result of the commissioning of the satellite grouping of the same name (and recall that the grouping will have 264 microsatellites, the launch of the first devices is scheduled for 2024), by 2025 it will be possible to achieve the price parameters of IoT services commensurate with terrestrial cellular networks.
This is a big challenge, because our company now makes 10 devices of different types per year. And here you need to make 132. This is a real task, because we have come to the concept of "satellite-instrument" and, just as we mass-assemble devices, we assume to assemble satellites. There are areas, technologies have been worked out, - said the chairman of the council of the Association of Satellite Communication Market Participants. |
Analysts predict that the global subscriber base of the satellite Internet of Things will reach 21.2 million devices by 2026. Satellite Internet of Things is used in:
- shipping industry,
- transport system,
- agriculture,
- oil and gas industry,
- utilities and construction. [1]
