2022: Process Mining Warehouse Assembly Process Analysis

International healthy food manufacturer Danone, together with GlowByte, has implemented a project to analyze the process of assembling orders in a warehouse using Process Mining technology. GlowByte announced this on November 14, 2022. Thanks to this, it was possible to achieve greater transparency in the configuration of the WMS (Warehouse Management System) system for picking, increase the throughput of the warehouse and increase the visibility of the use of personnel working time.

We proposed to use the Process Mining class solution because the technology has proven itself perfectly in the market for business process analysis approaches. It is focused on identifying inefficiencies and reducing financial losses. The analysis is carried out on the basis of data from source systems, configures the digital twin of the process and allows you to see it 'as is' - from the inside, identify problems, as well as understand their causes, said Irina Pashkova, business development manager for the Process Intelligence GlowByte team.

The solution allowed Danone to find suboptimal routes, assembly delays in just a month and a half, identify their causes and, together with the business owners of the process, fix the problems found. It turned out, for example, that the same SKUs (Stock Keeping Unit warehousing) in pieces and in boxes from the same storage location were not collected sequentially due to the WMS configuration. In addition, significantly more actual replenishment requests were found during the build process than expected, and the analysis figured out how to avoid such cases for the most popular products and storage locations.

According to Alexander Menshikov, Digital manager in Danone, critical shortcomings were also identified in the settings of the WMS itself. They were eliminated, and the logic of the system was corrected.
