Day of a Russian press — on January 13

It is founded by the Decree of the President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin in 1992 and connected with historical date — the beginning of the edition of the first Russian printing newspaper Vedomosti based by Peter the Great's decree. On January 13, 1703 in Moscow there was first issue of the Russian-language printing newspaper Vedomosti which was called: "Vedomosti about military and other affairs, worthy knowledge and memories which happened in the Moscow State and in other neighboring countries". This holiday was founded instead of "Day of the Soviet printing" — on May 5 which was dated for a release of the first issue of the bolsheviksky newspaper Pravda. On January 13, in Day of a Russian press, since 1997, there takes place the award of the President of Russia in the field of media and grants for support of projects of young journalists.
