2022: Announcement

On November 30, 2022, Electromed announced the release of the SmartVest Clearway airway cleaning system. The device for high-frequency oscillation of the chest wall is the fifth generation of technology that the company is developing.

According to the press release, the updated approach provides improved patient experience with proven outcomes. SmartVest Clearway's high-frequency chest wall oscillation (VHS) therapy helps clear the lungs of excess discharge. This reduces the risk of respiratory infections and hospitalizations for patients with chronic lung disease. Electromed intends to begin limited release to the US market in mid-December 2022.

Respiratory tract infections (acute respiratory diseases, acute respiratory diseases) can cause bacteria, viruses and fungi. Among bacterial pathogens, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydophila pneumoniae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, members of the Enterobacteriaceae family, Legionella pneumophila, pertussis and diphtheria pathogens are more common.

The technology delivers alternating pulses of air to the vest, which quickly compress and unclench the chest wall. This leads to fluctuations in airflow in the airways. These fluctuations promote loosening, liquefaction, and the movement of mucus to the main respiratory tract for elementation. This therapy is often prescribed for diseases such as noncystic fibrotic bronchiectasis and other chronic pulmonary diseases.[1]
