2022: App Announcement
On December 1, 2022, Epic Games and Capturing Reality announced that the RealityScan application is available for download, allowing you to create high-quality 3D models of real-world objects.
The free program, which previously passed closed beta testing, makes it possible to scan certain objects anywhere and at any time using a smartphone. No special skills are required to form 3D models. The process begins with logging into an Epic Games account. Then, using the camera of the mobile device, you need to take at least 20 photos of the object from different angles. The pictures are uploaded to the cloud, where a seamless volumetric structure is created. Such a 3D model can then be loaded into Sketchfab for later use in games, virtual and augmented reality.
Users simply photograph the object using their smartphone, and the RealityScan app uses cloud processing to convert it into a 3D model, which can then be exported to Sketchfab and shared with the world, the creators of the program say. |
In the process of shooting, the application in real time demonstrates a structural map of the object, which helps to understand which zones should be given additional attention. So, green indicates well-photographed areas, yellow indicates the need to obtain additional images, and red indicates poor detail. A special tool allows you to crop, removing unnecessary areas from the 3D model: to do this, just move the borders.
RealityScan works most well with relatively simple objects shot in uniform indirect lighting. The program is available for download App Store in for devices running iOS iPadOS. Epic Games and Capturing Reality plans also include the release of a version for. operating system Android[1][2]
