2022: System Announcement

On November 29, 2022, Amazon introduced the SimSpace Weaver service based on its AWS cloud platform, which allows you to perform complex spatial modeling with hundreds of thousands of independent and dynamic objects. It can be, for example, a city with a population of millions.

It is noted that simulations of this scale can be useful in a variety of situations. In particular, they will help predict what damage a particular natural disaster will cause to a modern metropolis or how street traffic will change during mass events. SimSpace Weaver makes it possible to play similar scenarios in a secure virtual environment without the need for real-world testing.

A realistic simulation of the city has been created

Amazon says large-scale modeling is usually performed on hardware with certain computing resources. If developers need to perform a more complex simulation, they have to look for a more productive system. SimSpace Weaver removes these limitations by transferring workloads to the AWS cloud with huge computing power and large amounts of memory.

The system provides the ability to model a huge number of independent dynamic objects - people, vehicles, etc. Each of them has its own set of behavioral characteristics, which are taken into account when moving around the world and interacting with other objects. For example, a simulation has been created that simulates 1 million people walking around Las Vegas. By superimposing geospatial data on crowds of simulated people, one can get an idea of what a city might look like in reality. The SimSpace Weaver service also integrates Unreal Engine 5 and Unity, which can be useful for developers.[1][2]
