Today we have an important, if not significant, event: the frigate "Admiral Gorshkov" begins a long-range sea trip, - said Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 4, 2023. - This is common, but this time the ship is equipped with the latest hypersonic missile system "Zircon" - as well as other weapons of recent generations. He has no analogues in any country in the world. I am sure that such powerful weapons will reliably protect Russia from potential external threats and will help ensure the national interests of our country.

Zircon is a Russian-made anti-ship hypersonic missile. It was developed at the Moscow Region NPO of mechanical engineering. The rocket can reach speeds of more than 9500 km/h. Tests began in July 2021. Putin said that Russia was forced to develop hypersonic weapons in response to the actions of NATO, whose infrastructure approached the Russian borders.

The Ministry of Defense reported on January 4, 2023 that the frigate "Admiral Gorshkov" went on a long sea trip along the Atlantic and Indian oceans, as well as the Mediterranean Sea. As part of the campaign, exercises will be held using hyposabonic missiles. The department noted that the ship is capable of delivering point and powerful attacks on the enemy at sea and on land.

"Admiral Gorshkov" refers to the frigates of project 22350. Military historian Dmitry Boltenkov, in a conversation with Izvestia, noted that the ships of this series are of a new generation, with a modern missile defense system. They have, he says, great seaworthiness.[1]
