2023: Development of a way to protect transmitted information

The Roselectronics holding, part of the Rostec state corporation, announced on January 19, 2023 that a way had been developed to protect the transmitted information by distorting the shape of the radio signal. The solution makes it possible to reduce the probability of unauthorized interception of data, as well as reduce the efficiency of recognizing and firing damage by the enemy of radio communications and other radio systems.

In an unauthorized interception, information can be recognized by the individual structure of the emitted signals. The presented method of data transmission protection significantly distorts this structure. At the transmitting station, the data is divided into fragments of a predetermined length and processed using the distortion function. The number of the distortion function used is determined according to a random number that is synchronously generated at the receiving and transmitting stations. Frequency of generated signal is increased or decreased to required value, after which signal is amplified and radiated into space. The receiving station decrypts the received signal according to the number of the distortion function used.

This method of data transmission protection, developed by employees of the Sozvezdiye concern (part of Roselectronics), will not allow enemy information extraction systems to identify intercepted signal fragments as transmitted by the same equipment. In addition, this method several times reduces the effectiveness of the enemy's determination of the operational-tactical and operational-strategic affiliation of radio communications, as well as other radiating radio systems, which reduces the risk of their fire damage.
