Constellation 3D Vostok

Company

Konstelleyshn 3 Dee Vostok - the Russian developer of optical disks.

Content

Constellation 3D Vostok specializes in development of protective and information products and technologies on the basis of the fluorescent dyes (shining in different flowers depending on a shade of the ray of light directed to them).

History

Constellation 3D Vostok была is founded in the late nineties by the American company Constellation of the 3D Inc., specializing in development new technologies of data storage. One of its founders is the Soviet physicist Evgeny Levich who left the USSR in 1975. Throughout some time he also held a position of the CEO of this company.

In 1998-1999 Constellation 3D Inc. provided the main development - the fluorescent optical disk capable to contain up to 140 GB of information. Without having managed to attract investments for start of these disks into production, in 2001 the company was announced by the bankrupt.

After bankruptcy of the company founder their firm continued the activity. Several times it changed the name – for example, also "Three-dimensional memory" worked under the names 3D Stor Vostok. In the near future, according to the CEO Alexey Lezhnev (September, 2010), the company is going to change the name again.

Clients

FSB of Russia

In September, 2010 the tender results on "Development of the disk carrier and the means of record/reading of information providing archive data storage, images and videos", FSB announced by one of technology divisions – a body 68240 are summed up. The contract at the maximum (initial) price in 45 million rubles was received by Konstelleyshn 3 Dee Vostok company (Constellation 3D Vostok).

In addition to it Federal State Unitary Enterprise RNIIRS from Rostov-on-Don specializing in development and production of the radio-electronic equipment participated in tender. Both participants offered the price identical, maximum, and here 3D Vostok promised to perform on terms of Constellation works 3 months faster, than Federal State Unitary Enterprise RNIIRS at the expense of what received the contract.

The winner should develop the optical disks essentially different from optical disks of the traditional standards CD, DVD, Blu-ray and others, said in the tender documentation. One of requirements to a new disk is the impossibility of reading/data recording using the devices presented at the commercial market therefore in addition to the disk the contractor will have to develop the corresponding drive for information read and write. Required writing rate – not less than 26 MB/sec., reading speed – not less than 36 MB/sec.

Also that time of physical destruction of information on a new disk in the reader device did not exceed 60 sec. Besides, is important for the customer the optical disk should have the increased resistance to mechanical damages and provide not less than 100 thousand cycles of the guaranteed reading of information. Diameter of an optical disk will be 120 mm, and thickness of a glass substrate – no more than 1.2 mm.

The developed device is necessary for ensuring video surveillance, automatic detection and recognition of the purposes and disturbing situations in real time according to the video image and also for formation in real time of the database of the recognizable purposes, said in the technical project.

For accomplishment of the government contract with FSB the company, according to Lezhnev, will use already existing own developments – technologies of a fluorescent optical disk and the reading-out / writer device for it - a digital multilayer player (Digital Multi-layer Disk Player). In 2007 the batch of sets of such players with disks was delivered in movie theaters of Khanty-Mansiysk. According to Lezhnev, their technologies close correspond described in the technical project of tender.

It should be noted that the company, according to Lezhnev, suspended development in the field of above-mentioned technologies as a core activity in connection with their low competitiveness against the background of the extending Blu-ray technology several years ago.
