At the end of January 2023, it became known that Avtotor began to produce cars of the Chinese company BAIC. While the test batch is being assembled at the Beijing X3 and X35 crossovers.
These models have been sold in China since 2019, as well as in Iran. Depending on the market, an atmospheric or turbo engine is available for cars, which develop 116 and 150 horsepower, respectively, and are combined with a manual transmission with five and six stages or a variator. Telegram channel "Russian Car" reports that a car with a continuously variable transmission is being produced in Russia.
On January 9, 2023, it became known that the Kaliningrad Avtotor plant is likely to produce the Kaiyi Xuandu sedan. The model was "lit up" in one of the news reports of the enterprise. On the eve of the New Year, as part of a charity wish-fulfillment event, the Avtotor plant fulfilled the request of a 13-year-old pupil of a local orphanage, who dreamed of seeing cars produced. A car hit the frame, which experts identified as Kaiyi Xuandu, which belongs to the Chinese Chery.
At the end of 2022, Avtotor notified about the start of the reconfiguration of production facilities for the assembly of new models. It was planned to both update the existing and install new equipment. Then it was also mentioned about the possible launch of the test assembly by the end of 2022, but the names of the plant's partners were not given.
In 2023, Chinese brands will seize 40-50% of the Russian car market, predicts auto expert Igor Morzharetto, and the remaining half of the market will belong to Russian companies, he believes. The same cars that are offered in Russia can cost twice as much in China, said Sergei Burgazliev, an independent automotive consultant, in a conversation with Газета.ру[1]
