School buses will be equipped with GLONASS

The M2M Telematics group will install GLONASS equipment on school buses in the Republic of Chuvashia. Within a pilot project the exchange service stations M2M-Cyber GLX equip the school buses which were purchased in anticipation of new academic year.

Main objective of implementation of monitoring systems and control of school transport – increase in safety of transportations of children and reduction of time of reaction in case of emergency situations. The GLONASS equipment installed on the bus allows to control in real time the movement of buses on route and observance by drivers of the high-speed mode.

From a dispatcher station it is possible to trace where at present there is a bus what number of runs he made whether he descended from a route owing to breakdown or accident. Besides, the driver, having pressed "the disturbing button", can instantly contact dispatching service. At occurrence of extreme situations the manager can also quickly cause technical or emergency medical service on the scene.

Implementation of the republican program "School Bus" began in Chuvashia in 2002, earlier, than in other territorial subjects of the Russian Federation. Within the program it was purchased by several hundred school buses which daily provide transportation more than 13 thousand school students. At the moment there is a planned replacement of outdated buses by the new, modern machines equipped with GLONASS equipment. The first buses with the GLONASS equipment are delivered to Alikovsky, Batyrevsky, Ibresinsky, Morgaushsky, Urmarsky, Tsivilsky, Cheboksary and Yadrinsky districts of the Chuvash Republic.

"We have a plan for replacement of outdated buses on new and to their equipment by GLONASS equipment. In 2011 in process of receipt of budgetary funds additional purchases of the school buses equipped with GLONASS system will be carried out. At the moment in the Republic of 338 school buses and replacement of 40 units is planned for the next year", - the Chairman of the State committee of the Chuvash Republic on communication and informatization Sergey Zakharov says.

At the moment in the Republic the information Internet portal http://www.bus21.ru thanks to which everyone in real time can monitor movement of the commercial and passenger transport (including school buses) equipped with GLONASS equipment works. Mobile version of the website is also available.

In development of the project it is supposed that information will come to district dispatching services on duty which in the round-the-clock mode will control movement of school transport, being in touch with ambulance, fire service, militia and other services of the emergency reaction.
