Indian wine Sula is well known in various parts of the planet. For 2022, it is officially exported to more than thirty states of the world, including Russia.

Grape and range varieties

The main emphasis is on the production of young wines. According to the founder of the brand, despite the fact that 99.9% of the Indian population do not have a tailspin in the house, the production of aged wines does not make sense.

In 2022, Sula grows grape varieties such as Riesling, Schenen Blanc, Shiraz Rosé, Zinfandel, Cabernet Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc.

About 50 varieties of wine are produced on their basis, including within the series:

  • Rasa (red wine),
  • Dindori (dry white and red wine),
  • Source (pink, white, black wine),
  • Dia (sparkling wine) and
  • Kadu (white and red wines).

Sula was the first to launch sparkling Shiraz wine (aged in oak barrels), Riesling, Zinfandel on the Indian market. And her brainchilds - Shenen Blanc and Cabernet Shiraz are considered the most popular white and red wine in India, respectively.

History

1999: Winery established

The first city to offer mass production of wine drinks in India was Nashik or Nasik in Maharashtra. Even the status of a holy city associated with "Ramayana" and acting as the venue of Kumbh Mela did not prevent it from occupying this niche. The local climate is ideal for growing several types of grapes that are great for creating quality wines. For 2022, Nashik is considered the "capital of winemaking in India" and the "main region for the production of peremial wines" in the country. Locally produced beverages are not only supplied to alcoholic stores in India, but are also exported abroad. The most famous Nashik winery is Sula Vineyards.

The winery began operations in 1999. The owner of the production was Rajiv Samant, a native of Mumbai and a graduate of Stanford University who previously worked in California at Oracle Corporation. The name Sula is short for his mother's name, Sulabha.

For 10 years, Rajiv managed not only to make the brand competitive, but also to bring it among the leaders of this market.
