2023

Russian engineers from the M.A. Kartsev Research Institute of Computing Complexes (NIIVK) have developed a radar station capable of detecting the smallest drones. This was announced by the press service of the National Technology Initiative announced at the end of January 2023.

They noted that this station is capable of detecting even drones with a takeoff weight of 150 grams or more, such as DJI, which do not fall into the visibility zone of surveillance systems. The solution is intended for round-the-clock and all-weather detection and measurement of the coordinates of unmanned aerial vehicles at a distance of up to 10 km, RIA Novosti quotes Vitaly Dolgov, head of the laboratory for external piloting and operation of unmanned aircraft at NIIVK.

In Russia, created a locator capable of detecting a drone weighing 150 grams

According to him, for Russia this decision is extremely relevant due to the rapid development of the drone market, which should be accompanied by the emergence of developments for the safe use of devices.

It is specified that after calculating the location of the drone at the same second, the station sets its speed, and also transmits data on the flight of the device to the consumer: for example, to the situation center, to cameras for additional detection or recognition of objects. Dolgov noted that it took about a year to develop, and by the end of January 2023 everything was ready for production.

According to the publication "Military Review," Russian enterprises included in Rostec are massively creating reconnaissance and strike drones designed for the needs of a special military operation. The mass appearance of such equipment radically changed the nature of the conduct of hostilities. Small tactical drones are capable of conducting reconnaissance operations, automatically detecting enemy positions, as well as directing artillery strikes. In addition, copters can drop grenades on the enemy.[1]
