2023: Arrest in the case of embezzlement of 350 million rubles
On January 30, 2023, it became known that the ex-head of the International Bank for Finance and Investments (MBFI) Mikhail Fedorov was arrested in the case of embezzlement of 350 million rubles. He was sent to Sison Basmanny District Court of Moscow until March 16, 2023.
As Kommersant writes with reference to the data of the investigation, a few days before the revocation of the license from MBFI, Mikhail Fedorov issued deliberately bad loans. In total, four LLCs received almost 90 million rubles at their disposal. At the same time, the bank issued almost 252 million rubles to individuals in the form of "obviously bad loans." At the same time, according to the publication, the investigation had at its disposal fictitious expenses of cash orders for issuing loans to individuals. As a result, at the time of the collapse, MBFI owed creditors almost 520 million rubles.
The representative of the Investigative Committee insisted that while remaining at large, the ex-banker could hide, obstruct the investigation, threaten witnesses and hide the money stolen from the bank. The court also reported that after revoking the license from MBFI, the bank tried to destroy all primary documentation. In addition, according to the investigation, Fedorov, who was in the status of a suspect, disappeared and was put on the wanted list on December 29, 2022.
The accused told the court that he was not going to commit illegal actions and was not hiding from the investigation. According to Fedorov, he went abroad before the New Year, having previously notified the investigator by phone. The former banker who returned to Russia was detained on January 16, 2023.
For almost six years, the TFR has been investigating a criminal case of particularly large embezzlement (part 4 of article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) from MBFI. The basis was an appeal to the law enforcement agencies of the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA). The charges were brought only in December 2022. By that time, the ex-chairman of the MBFI Vladimir Sakharov, who also appeared in the case, had already died. Fedorov remained the only defendant.[1]
