Cancellation of the design of the first small modular nuclear reactor after a 53% increase in costs
The first US small modular nuclear reactor project has been canceled after a 53% cost increase. The NuScale project involved the use of six small reactors.
The decision is a blow to supporters of "advanced nuclear power."
US approval of first small model reactor
On January 20, 2023, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission USA (NRC) approved the use of the country's first small modular reactor (MMR) -. NuScale VOYGR SMR
As of mid-2023, NuScale Power has 19 signed and existing domestic and international agreements for the placement of MMR installations in 12 countries, including Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic and Jordan, as well as a pool of orders under the Carbon Free Power Project.
In Ukraine and Armenia, American companies are also working in the direction of MMR.
