Clarius PAL HD3 Output

On October 10, 2023, Clarius Mobile Health announced a universal portable ultrasound scanner called the Clarius PAL HD3. This compact wireless device is suitable for a wide variety of application scenarios, including ambulances.

The novelty, according to the developer, has the widest frequency range among all portable ultrasound scanners available on the commercial market (as of October 2023). The device is equipped with phased and linear grids, which makes it suitable for 95-99% of all traditional studies.

Clarius PAL HD3

Clarius PAL HD3 is a full-body ultrasound scanner that provides high-resolution images at various levels: from the surface layer of the skin to structures located at a depth of up to 40 cm in the patient's body. Medical professionals can perform ultrasound examinations of any area without the need to change equipment or transport bulky systems from one room to another. This is especially important for intensive care units and emergency services.

The size of the new device is comparable to a regular smartphone, and therefore can fit into the pocket of a medical gown without any problems. The image can be transmitted wirelessly to mobile devices running Android and iOS. The scanner has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The cost of the product is about $5400.

The ability to carry a single appliance and get the highest quality images when scanning any part of the body in a few minutes is incredibly convenient, says Dr. Tom Cook, an emergency specialist in South Carolina.[1]

Product Announcement

On January 17, 2023, the Canadian company Clarius Mobile Health introduced an accessory called Power Fan, which allows the use of portable ultrasound systems of the Clarius HD3 family around the clock.

Power Fan is this mounted fan that provides cooling of the medical device. In addition, it allows you to supply constant power via a USB interface, for example, from a wall outlet or a bank. As a result, doctors can perform ultrasound scans without interruption - said to be the first time a similar capability has been implemented for compact systems.

Clarius notes that other portable ultrasound devices usually begin to heat up after 20-30 minutes of use. The battery lasts for about 1-2 hours of operation, and the charging time is from 75 minutes to five hours, depending on the model. Thanks to the new Power Fan, scanners can function almost indefinitely. For example, during testing, Clarius devices worked continuously at the company's headquarters for several weeks, after which they were transferred for field testing to medical staff.

Adding Power Fan means we can scan non-stop if needed. And we can provide exceptional predictability and safety of our procedures for better outcomes, "notes Dr. M. J. Rowland-Warmann, founder of Smileworks.

The Power Fan is compatible with various Clarius HD3 ultrasound scanners, in particular, the C3 HD3 multifunctional device, the C7 HD3 microconvex device, the EC7 HD3 in-cavity device, the L20 HD3 ultra-high frequency linear scanner, the PA HD3 sector phased device and other models.[2]
