2023: Project Closure
At the end of February 2023, it became known that NetApp had curtailed the Spot PC project, which involves the development of technologies in the field of virtual desktops.
The Spot PC platform was introduced in 2021. These are cloud desktops that are based on Windows 365 software. It was argued that the use of this concept can reduce costs when maintaining business transactions. With fully managed cloud desktops, customers can focus on their own IT tasks.
According to the CRN resource, NetApp has decided to close Spot PC due to the fact that it plans to reorganize its resources to maintain growth and development in the future. Earlier, NetApp announced a staff reduction of approximately 8%. According to a September 2022 report by the US Securities and Exchange Commission, NetApp employed about 12,000 employees worldwide.
NetApp CEO George Kurian said the company is taking other actions to optimize costs, including reducing investment in products with less revenue potential, such as Astra Data Store and SolidFire.
NetApp prioritizes investment and product efforts with high value and growth, and innovates to support the changing business needs of our customers. At the same time, we continue to refine our prioritization efforts to focus only on the areas of the business that are most promising. Therefore, we are leaving the Cloud Desktop product category, which includes Spot PC. We are confident that these steps will strengthen NetApp's market position and help our customers take full advantage of the benefits of cloud technology, the company says.[1] |
