On March 13, 2023, the British government announced the formation of a new structure that will help enterprises and organizations provide their own protection against information security threats.

The so-called National Protection and Security Directorate (NPSA) became part of MI5, the government department of British counterintelligence. The new structure will work closely with existing bodies including cyber security the National Centre (NCSC) and the National Counter Terrorism Directorate. At the same time, the NPSA will assume the responsibilities of the Center for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI), but with broader powers reflecting the fact that the threats faced go Britain far beyond critical national infrastructure.

New structure will help businesses and organizations in Britain provide protection against cyber attacks

It is assumed that the NPSA will increase Britain's resistance to cyber threats at the state level and terrorism, as well as play an important role in strengthening the country's economic security. The specialists of the new department will advise a wide range of private and public sector organizations, including technology startups, enterprises and universities, on the protection of IT infrastructure, including from theft of classified data. Recommendations are planned to be provided in an accessible and informative form. Ultimately, the goal is to help businesses solve cybersecurity problems.
