2023: Setting a world record for balloon range
Traveler Fyodor Konyukhov and President of the Federation of Aeronautical Sports Russia Ivan Menyailo completed a record flight in a heat balloon, leaving Kirovsk, Murmansk Region and landing in Khatang, Krasnoyarsk Territory. Konyukhov announced this on March 26, 2023. According to him, a world record was set for the range of a non-stop flight in a heat balloon: they covered 2540 km, which is 174 km higher than the 1994 result shown by Japanese pilot Michio Kanda.
The ball started on March 24 from Kirovsk, at an altitude of three to six kilometers flew through the airspace of the Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions, the Nenets and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Districts, as well as the Krasnoyarsk Territory. March 26 at 3:24 Moscow time he landed at the Khatanga airfield.
For the first time, a thermal balloon with an open basket flew over the water area of two seas of the Arctic Ocean - Barents and Kara. In addition, this is the longest flight on a thermal balloon beyond the Arctic Circle - the entire flight distance took place in the region of 67-72 degrees north latitude.
Fyodor Konyukhov dedicated his record flight to the 20th anniversary of the All-Russian movement "Children of Russia - Education, Health and Spirituality - DROZD" - a key social project of PhosAgro, which became the expedition's general partner. By her order, a unique balloon was made for transcontinental flight, the volume of the shell of which is 12 thousand cubic meters. This makes it the largest in the history of domestic aeronautics. The maximum flight altitude was 5.820 meters, the maximum speed was 109 km per hour.[1]
