The Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam is one of the most important sections in route network of Lufthansa AG airline. About 20 arrivals and departures provide the considerable volume of processing of baggage at one of the most officially loaded airports in the world.
For tracking improvement worldwide of the status of processing of each separate article of luggage in own Management system for baggage (BMS), Lufthansa made the decision to unroll also own System of reconciliation of baggage (BRS) in a number of key points. As pilot section the airport of Amsterdam was selected. A choice of a system for reconciliation of baggage was made using the product PSIairport/BRS.
11/23/2004 the project was complete. The experimental unit was successfully put in operation.
Problem definition and requirements
On the standard PC Lufthansa companies with the software Windows XP was installed both necessary server processes, and a client part with dialogs of the operator of the PSIairport/BRS system.
Data exchange between the connected systems and PSIairport/BRS happens to the help of the standardized IATA messages according to RP 1745 (BSM/BPM). Thanks to the scanner with a radio communication the following functions are performed or supported:
- Accounting of loading of separate units of baggage and all cargo unit
- Accounting of unloading of separate units of baggage and all cargo unit
- Inventory of separate units of baggage and all cargo unit
- Accounting of special parameters of separate units of baggage
- Comparison of results of scanning to specific runs and loaders
Due to the need of portable equipment scanners with the display were selected. Only information, main, necessary for fast processing, is displayed for personnel of cargo department. The choice of different functions is executed by scanning of the corresponding operational codes.
Using the service station detailed information on separate units of baggage, runs, etc. Besides, using the service station can be requested verification of all credentials is also possible. Also function of printout of inventories and receipts and also printing of special documents, such as ULD labels is supported.
Management of users and means of loading are only examples of extensive set of administrative functions which is offered by the PSIairport/BRS system.
Configuration
Installation of the PSIairport/BRS system was executed on the CAMPUS computer of Lufthansa company under the Windows XP operating system. Preserving of data is performed using the Oracle database. Through the IAK protocol, standard for Lufthansa company, there is a data exchange to the central system of Lufthansa (UNISYS) and also a management system for baggage (BMS). Peripheral components (for example, laser printers), are also controlled the PSIairport/BRS system, as well as hand scanners with support of a radio communication (DL 101 Datalogic Dragon). For expansion of a coverage of a system of a broadcast of data through wire connection access points, so-called Stargates were set. A system allows flexible expansion by other terminal equipment.
