FRAPORT AG (PSIairport)

Customers: Airport of Frankfurt

Frankfurt am Main; Transport

Contractors: PSI Logistics (PSI)
Product: PSIairport

Project date: 2002/04

In April, 2002, after several days of development of the concept and implementation, the PSI Logistics company put into operation the first version of a management system for the schedule of flights which is specially adapted to requirements of FRAPORT AG. In three weeks this system was completely in operation.

The FRAPORT AG company uses a large number of end-to-end systems which are somewhat connected with each other for daily work of the operational divisions. In March, 2002 urgently there was a need to implement the management system for the schedule of flights allowing flexible drawing up so-called daily schedules (daily). The daily diagram forms base for planning of use of operation personnel in the passenger terminal. A number of indicators which gather using a management system for the schedule of flights forms a basis for preparation of the daily diagram.

In addition to the daily diagram, the crucial role is played also by development of seasonal schedules of flights. A possibility of effective processing of periodically repeating runs help operators by drawing up seasonal schedules.
About 70 airlines use for management of the operational processes at the airport of Frankfurt support of this management system for the schedule of flights now.

Task and implementation

In particular, very short time for engineering characterization and implementation was the main difficulty for developers. Here advantages of the developed PSI Logistics of the basic software significantly paid off in practice. The basic software is a reliable program basis for modular execution of the applications selected individually. Such construction allowed software developers to focus only on specific business processes of FRAPORT AG. Only thus PSI Logistics was succeeded to observe the firm schedule.

In addition to observance of data of the schedule of flights an important role was played also by aspect of accounting of basic data. Along with the others, the management system for the schedule of flights traces the following basic data:

  • Airport: Administration, both airports of departure, and arrival is made for all processed airlines.
  • Types of airplanes: The management system for the schedule of flights provides information, necessary for schedule development, on the processed types of airplanes.
  • Airlines: The management system for schedules of flights also contains all necessary information on airlines.
  • Special marking and types of traffic: management of special marking and administration and special types of transport supplies employees of the terminal with information, important for the work, connected with specific run.

Accurate display of diagrams of flights in a tabular form supports operators during their daily work.
Special dialogs and functions also allow processing of special cases, such as consolidation and separation of the connected runs (entering with proceeding).

Configuration

Functioning of a management system for schedules of flights is implemented on working computers running the Windows NT 4.0 operating system through programmed in Java clients.

Clients communicate with the UNIX-SERVER working in the UnixWare operating system ® 7.1.1.

Data are stored in the Oracle database.

Communication between the server and the client is performed through Ethernet TCP/IP.
