To satisfy to growth of number of passengers in recent years and to favorable forecasts for the next period, the Flughafen Hamburg GmbH company started implementation of complex measures for upgrade. Within the so-called HAM21 project new terminal 1 which in short terms undertook basic functions of the airport so now and old terminal 2 can be upgraded taking into account the current and future demands was constructed.

 The modern complex of processing and sorting of baggage with the integrated rentgentelevizionny installation of examination became the center of the new terminal. As subcontractor of Vanderlande Industries GmbH company from Myunkhengladbakh, the PSI Logistics company received the delivery contract software for sorting of baggage with integration into the existing system environment of the airport.

In May, 2005 the new management system of PSIairport/BHS with all operational functions was successfully put into operation.

Problem definition and requirements

In addition to a software package for sorting of baggage of PSIairport/BHS also the system of the visual notification PSIairport/FIDS was used.

Both of these systems are already operated at the different German and international airports.

Data exchange between the connected airlines and the PSI Logistics systems is performed using the standardized IATA notifications according to the RP 1745 protocol (BSM/BPM).

The PSIairport/BHS system supports disponents in daily work thanks to flexible and conformal user dialogs. For increase in efficiency dialogs for specific jobs were optimized. Extensive statistical data and information dialogs and also integration on the existing Wednesday of office programs supplement the PSIairport/BHS installation (Word, Excel, etc.).

The functionality of PSIairport/FIDS is organically built in a system. For the best supply of operation personnel with necessary information on different working sections information displays were set. In addition to LED boards for the plain text, on each section of sorting the TFT display was also installed. With the PSIairport/FIDS system the most different types of a board with information from other systems can be delivered if necessary (in this case PSIairport/BHS).

Configuration

To ensure functioning from 4 a.m. till 10 p.m. all seven days a week, the cluster system under Windows 2003 Advanced Server of production Hewlett Packard was selected. Service clients are equipped with the Windows XP Professional operating system.

The specifics of cluster system consisted that both nodes were placed widely spaced that became possible thanks to fiber optic communication between computers. Reliability of preserving of data, in addition to use of two independent RAIDs, is provided with the Oracle database in version 9.

Connection to the systems of the airport and integration of airlines through SITA network it was executed on the basis of standard protocols of TCP/IP. Thanks to an indicator system (PSIairport/FIDS) equipment by 35 two-lower case LED boards and 4 TFT displays with information from the computer of management of processing of baggage was made.
